One of Journalism’s most prestigious awards, the Goldsmith career award for excellence in journalism, was awarded this year to Alan Rusbridger, the editor of the UK based Guardian Newspaper. The award, which is granted by the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, is normally reserved for Americans. However, the impressive growth of the Guardian’s popularity, and Rusbridger’s dedication to honesty and truth in journalism has impelled the Harvard School of Government to send the award overseas for the first time.

The award committee cited Rusbridger’s most noteworthy achievement in journalism, his exposure of the News Corporations’ phone-hacking scandal last summer, his journalistic integrity, and the success of the Guardian as the three critical reasons he was chosen for the award.
